Our very humanity has been defined by the universal custom of gathering together to bury our dead. No other ritual comes close to contemplating the mysteries that are at the core of existence than the funeral. Within the ceremonies is the invitation to begin healing, to bereave, to forgive and, ultimately to embrace hope. The creation of an appropriate ceremony at such times can be a tremendous source of benefit to the wider community of friends and colleagues as well. Indeed, well chosen words can help, but perhaps it is simply the power of being together that speaks most clearly to the heart.
To prepare for delivering a memorial service, I will meet with you and your family for an unhurried interview. I will write the eulogy, carefully selecting the most appropriate quotations from literature and, if desired, religious reference. I will be in contact with the funeral director in order to communicate your vision of the service. In my role as celebrant, I will make sure the order of service runs smoothly and sensitively.
